A Time Traveler Using Cell Phone Spotted in a 1940s Photo
- Kristjan Hoffmann
VIVA – An old photo that allegedly shows a person from the future became a hot topic of conversation on social media a few moments ago. The photo is claimed to be from 1940. Initially, the black-and-white photo was uploaded on Facebook.
Spread on Icelandic group Gamlar ljósmyndir, the photo was shared by user Kristjan Hoffmann in 2016 with the caption "One thing that catches the eye in this beautiful picture is that it's 2016". Some users claimed the man in the photo was using a device that was too sophisticated for the time.
The man stood out because he was wearing a light-colored coat. His hand seemed to be close to his ear as if he was making a call on a cell phone. There was obviously no cell phone technology at that time. So, at first glance, the man looks strange to be in a 1940s crowd. It didn’t take long for social media to throw their thoughts into the ring, insisting the man must be a time traveler.
"One thing that catches the eye from the picture is that above the window, in the middle corner of the picture, a man is leaning and using a cell phone," Hoffman wrote, as reported by NYpost.
"I don't know what to say, I don't think he was just talking on the phone. He was in a statue, alone and wearing a different head covering from the others and a scarf and acting just like us today,” he added.
This photo has also been shared through the YouTube platform. There, the image was included in a conspiracy theory video entitled 10 Real Cases of Times Travel That Cannot Be Explained.
However, not all agree with the time traveler theory. Some users suggested that the man might have been checking if his watch was working and others suggested that he might have been smoking a tobacco pipe and scratching his ear.
