VIVA – Merapi volcano erupted on Saturday, spewing hot clouds up to seven kilometers, the local authority stated. This disaster made three tourist attractions temporarily closed, and residents should stop any activities in the danger zones.

This series of hot clouds made Mount Merapi National Park (TNGM) take mitigation steps by temporarily closing some tourist attractions located in its area or the slopes of Mount Merapi.

Head of the TNGM Center, Muhammad Wahyudi in his written statement said that the tourist attractions in the TNGM area that are active are Jurang Jero Nature Tourism Object, Tlogo Muncar Nature Tourism Object, and Kalikuning-Pluyon Nature Tourism Object.

The closing of some attractions refers to a press release from BPPTKG Yogyakarta Number B-85/GL.03/BGV.KG2/2023 on March 11, 2023, regarding the activity of Mount Merapi. In the circular, BPPTKG Yogyakarta mentioned the potential danger in several river channels reaching 5-7 Km.

"As a mitigation effort in facing the threat of Mount Merapi eruption, we inform you that the activities of Jurang Jero Nature Tourism Object, Tlogo Muncar Nature Tourism Object, and Kalikuning-Pluyon Nature Tourism Object are temporarily closed starting March 12, 2023," Wahyudi said.

As previously reported, a series of hot clouds from Mount Merapi continued to occur until Sunday. BPPTKG Yogyakarta recorded that there were 41 hot clouds released by Mount Merapi.

The hot clouds reached a glide distance of 4 kilometers with the impact of ash rain up to 33 kilometers from the top of Mount Merapi.
