VIVA – Indonesia has entered the rainy season, but in the past few days, the air in several areas of Indonesia has been hot even though it is the rainy season currently.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BKMG) announced that the daytime air temperature could reach 25 degrees Celsius in several areas.

On some days, it even ranks as the highest level of temperature in Indonesia. For example, January 12, was recorded as the hottest day this week with a daily maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius.

Then, what is the cause? In its official Instagram upload @infobmkg, BMKG explained the reasons why the air feels hot in this rainy season.

1. Lack of Cloud Cover

Cloud cover is reduced in some areas. In the Java to Nusa Tenggara region, there is little cloud cover, this is the cause of the hot temperatures in the region.

2. Optimum Solar Radiation Reaches the Surface

Solar radiation is also the cause of hot temperatures. Currently, radiation from the Sun is at its maximum stage and reaches the surface of the Earth.

3. There is a Rain Break

There is a lull in rainfall in some areas, even during the rainy season. In early to mid-January, most parts of Indonesia still receive rain. However, some areas have not experienced rain for more than 6 days.

4. Blocking of the Asian Monsoon

There was a disturbance in the circulation of the Asian Monsoon. The Asian Monsoon is a wind that moves from the west carrying air masses. The dry spell and less cloudiness in Java and surrounding areas are caused by the blocking of the Asian Monsoon.

The often appearance of vortices in the western Pacific Ocean in the South China Sea and southwest Sumatra, causes the flow of moist air masses from the north to be hampered. As a result, dry air from the south is more dominant in southern Indonesia.
