VIVA – When Americans gather for the 2022 Christmas and New Year's holidays, the United States Government anticipates an increase in COVID-19 cases during this winter. It was conveyed by President Joe Biden through his Twitter account, @POTUS on December 16, 2022, in the early morning.
President Joe Biden stated that COVID-19 cases are going up across the country, and government has the plan to manage this moment.
“COVID cases are going up across the country. But we have the tools, infrastructure, and know-how we need to manage this moment. Today, we announced our Winter COVID-19 Preparedness Plan to ensure we stay ahead of increases in cases this winter.” wrote Joe Biden.
It seems that the government will plan five plans to anticipate an increase in Covid-19 during the winter. First, the US government will provide free tests at COVIDTesrs.gov. Second, partner with governors and local leaders. Third, Federal personnel and resources for tests, treatments, and vaccines. Fourth, monitoring emerging subvariants domestically and around the world. Then fifth, a special focus on protecting nursing home residents and high-risk individuals.
Meanwhile, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the average number of new COVID-19 cases in seven days reached more than 65,000 last week, an increase of nearly 50 percent compared to the previous week.
As of December 7, more than 99 million COVID-19 cases and 1.08 million deaths have been reported in the US, the CDC reported. In addition to COVID-19, two other viruses, influenza and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), have also hit the US.
Several cities in United States, including New York and Los Angeles are urging people to wear masks indoors.
"We are on the verge of a new surge. Wearing a well-fitting mask will be very beneficial as people travel during the holidays, helping to protect against the current respiratory virus,” a primary care physician and public health specialist based in Atlanta, Georgia, Saju Mathew said through Twitter on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
