Indonesian-made Cars Become More Popular Overseas

VIVA – Indonesia has an automotive industry with a production capacity of up to two million units per year. Also, the Indonesian automotive industry plays an important role in the economic growth of the nation.

The products made by Indonesia not only be marketed in the country but also exports to countries around the world. The amount can reach a hundred thousand units per year and it means Indonesian-made cars become more popular in overseas. 

Every month, tens of thousands of units are shipped in completely built-up (CBU) condition. It also sends to several countries in a completely knocked down (CKD) condition that later can be assembled into a complete unit in the destination country.

Not only that, four of the automotive manufacturers who are members of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) also send components needed for vehicle assembly in other countries, and the number each month can reach tens of millions of pcs.

Based on Gaikindo data, as quoted on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in November several cars with four or more wheels exported overseas were recorded at 39,014 units.

The number was 22.1 percent lower than the previous month which was known to be 50,062 units. Meanwhile, CKD exports increased by five percent, from 7,720 in October to 8,104 in November this year. If sum up from the beginning of the year, during the 11 months of 2022, 423,619 cars were shipped as a whole. Compared to last year, there was a 58 percent increase this year.

Daihatsu is still the largest exporter of cars with 143,525 units from January to November this year. The second place is occupied by Toyota, which experienced a 103 percent increase from 61,044 units last year to 124,012 units this year.

8. Hino - 135 units

9. Hyundai HIM - 80 units

10. DFSK - 49 units
