Visit Belgium, President Joko Widodo Attends EU-ASEAN Summit

VIVA – President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo visits Brussels, Belgium today, Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Jokowi's visit to Belgium aims to attend the EU-ASEAN Summit.
"This morning, I and the First Lady (Iriana Jokowi) and a limited delegation will visit Brussels, Belgium to attend the ASEAN-EU Summit in the framework of 45 years of ASEAN and European Union relations," President Joko Widodo said at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
According to Jokowi, in 2021, trade relations between countries in ASEAN and the European Union were very well established. It is the third-largest trade relationship between the United States and China.
"We know that trade relations between ASEAN and the European Union in 2021 amounted to US$268.9 billion. This is the third largest after China and the United States, and foreign direct investment from the European Union to ASEAN which amounted to around US$26 billion in 2021 is also the second largest foreign direct investment after China," Joko Widodo stated.
Therefore, Jokowi said these good relations must always be maintained. One of the steps to continue to maintain these good relations is by attending this EU-ASEAN summit.
"This is why we continue to strengthen and improve the good relations between ASEAN and the European Union," Jokowi said.
Jokowi said during his visit, he hoped that Indonesia would also can ncrease cooperation with countries in the European Union.
"Also, our country Indonesia wants our trade to increase, between Indonesia and the EU and also investment from the European Union to Indonesia also continues to increase," Joko Widodo said.
The Indonesian President said that he would not linger in Belgium. In less than 24 hours, Jokowi and a limited delegation will return to the country. "My delegation and I will only be in Belgium for less than 24 hours, after that we will return to Indonesia."
