VIVA – Puro Mangkunegaran is one of the cultural history learning facilities in Solo, Indonesia. At first, this place was the residence of the ruler family of Surakarta named Mangkunegara. This place recently goes viral because Pura Mangkunegaran is the location of the wedding of President Joko Widodo's son, Kaesang Pangarep and Erina Gudono on December 11, 2022.

Puro Mangkunegaran has its historical value. As reported by various sources, the establishment of Puro Mangkunegaran is related to the Kadipaten Mangkunegaran. One of the kingdoms in Solo was present on March 17, 1757.

The palace was established after the Salatiga Agreement was signed by a group of Raden Mas Said, Pangeran Mangkubumi (Sultan Hamengkubuwana I), Sunan Pakubuwana III, and the VOC. The Salatiga agreement recognized Raden Mas Said as an independent prince. His territory had the status of a duchy called Praja Mangkunegaran.

The process of building Puro Mangkunegaran did not stop during Raden Mas Said's time. Renovations were often carried out by subsequent Mangkunegaran rulers such as Mangkunegara IV who added iron around the pavilion in 1886.

Parts of the building

Architecturally, the building complex of Puro Mangkunegaran has parts that resemble a palace; pamedan, pendopo ageng, pringgitan, ndalem ageng, pracimoyasa, and keputren. The entire complex is surrounded by a wall except for the pamedan which has an iron fence. This is an explanation of the building parts in Puro Mangkunegaran.

Pamedan

Pamedan is a green field that is generally used as a training ground for Mangkunegaran troops. The location of the pamedan is after passing through the green gate when entering Puro Mangkunegaran.

Pendopo Ageng

This place is located at the second gate leading to a joglo-shaped courtyard with a size of 3,500 square meters. This hall is estimated to be able to accommodate up to 10,000 people. The entire building was constructed without the use of nails.

Pringgitan

Right behind the pendopo, there is an open veranda called pringgitan which is usually used for shadow puppet shows and receiving grand guests or officials.

Ndalem Ageng

With an area of about 1,000 square meters and shaped like a pyramid, ndalem ageng originally served as the royal bride's bedroom. Now the room has been turned into a museum containing jewelry, weapons, coins, and royal puppetry paraphernalia.

Pracimoyasa

Pracimoyasa is an octagonal-shaped living room used for meetings overlooking an open garden and furnished with candles and European furniture.

Keputren

The keputren building is where the Mangkunegara family lives. It contains a garden, classical European statues, and a fountain.
