VIVA – The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) realizes that products from the semiconductor industry are much needed by other manufacturing sectors such as the electronics and automotive industries. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry collaborates with the Co-Founder of semiconductor company in United States, Marvell Technology to build an IC Design Center.

This effort is in line with import substitution policies, especially components of diodes, transistors, similar semiconductor equipment, and Integrated circuits (IC) products.

"We are trying to reduce dependence on semiconductors whose supply chain is getting more difficult and the demand is getting higher and higher. So, we must prepare the supply," Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita remarked in Bali, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

The cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and the US company was symbolically carried out through the signing of an agreement by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Dody Widodo with an innovator who develops semiconductor technology and also the Co-Founder of the US Semiconductor company, Marvell Technology, Sehat Sutardja.

Currently, Sehat Sutardja is active in various companies to create the latest technology, one is a Singapore-based company, Zerro Power, which will carry out semiconductor development cooperation with the Ministry of Industry.

"He represents one of his companies, Zerro Power, which is currently investing in semiconductor-based home appliances," Agus Gumiwang remarked.

Kemenperin hopes that this cooperation can encourage the development and increase the capacity of the semiconductor industry in Indonesia so that it can have an independent semiconductor industry in the future. One form of cooperation is the construction of the IC Design Center in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Sehat Sutardja said that he welcomed the cooperation as a form of his contribution to technology development in Indonesia and participating in the future growth of the industry.

He expressed his desire to bring the technologies he created back to Indonesia. "Hopefully, in the future, these technologies can be produced through cooperation with the Indonesian government and companies," Sehat Sutardja remarked.

He added that through the cooperation between his company and Kemenperin, there is a message to be conveyed, especially for Indonesians who are currently working in other countries, including the United States.

"We need to do our best and try things that are a challenge, especially for the younger generation," he added.
