VIVA – The owners of Liverpool, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) confirmed on Monday, November 7, 2022, that they are considering selling their ownership shares in the Premier League club.
Fenway Sports Group, owned by John W. Henry, previously bought Liverpool from George Gillett and Tom Hicks in 2010 for 300 million pounds.
"FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties wishing to become shareholders in Liverpool," FSG said in their statement.
"FSG has said previously that under the right terms and conditions, we will consider new shareholders when it is in the best interests of Liverpool as a club." Continued in the statement.
Liverpool under FSG underwent an extraordinary transformation. They brought in Jurgen Klopp from Borussia Dortmund as coach of the Reds in 2015 and that decision brought tremendous success to the team.
Liverpool has a bigger stadium and a more storied history as one of the most successful teams in world football.
Liverpool has won a total of eight trophies so far since being acquired by Fenway Sports Group, including lifting the England league trophy for the first time in 30 years and winning the Champions League in 2019.
Based on the Forbes report in May 2022, Liverpool currently has a selling value of 3.89 billion pounds (around IDR 70.2 trillion). This amount is ten times higher than when FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010.
