VIVA – The Total Lunar Eclipse phenomenon will occur next week, exactly on November 8, 2022, at 6 PM Indonesian West time. According to Research Professor of Astronomy-Astrophysics, Space Research Center of the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN), Thomas Djamaluddin, the Blood Red Full Moon phenomenon will rise in Jakarta and western Indonesia in the evening.

"The eclipse phase starts at 4:09 PM to 7:49 PM. Meanwhile, the total eclipse starts at 5 PM to 6 PM. It means, in the western region of Indonesia when it rises, the Purnama moon is already in a Total Lunar Eclipse which is blood red. The media often call it Blood Moon," Thomas Djamaluddin wrote in an Instagram post, on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

The impact of this phenomenon is generally the same as the Full Moon or New Moon, associated with maximum tides on the coast. However, research conducted by Thomas shows that the potential for rob flooding is not directly related to the Full Moon or New Moon.

The main influencing factor is the Earth-Moon-Sun configuration. The combination of full moon factors (including lunar eclipse), moon declination, perigee (closest distance from the moon to earth), and sun declination affect Rob flood disaster.

"Regarding the Total Lunar Eclipse phenomenon, the potential for Rob flood on the north coast (pantura) of East Java will be around November 7, while around the north and central Java coast around November 12, 2022," Djamaluddin remarked.

A total Lunar Eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon when the entire surface of the Moon enters the Earth's core shadow (umbra), This is because of the configuration between the Moon, Earth, and Sun that forms a straight line. When the Moon enters the umbra, the color of the umbra tends to be black.

When completed in the umbra, the Moon's color will be reddish due to the Rayleigh scattering mechanism that occurs in Earth's atmosphere.
