VIVA – The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be held in several official stadiums, one is in Al Bayt Stadium located in the city of Al Khor. This stadium uses the design concept of nomadic people in Qatar.
The process of working on Al Bayt Stadium took approximately five years, starting at the end of 2015 and officially opening in early 2020. The opening coincides with the National Sports Day celebrated in Qatar.
The 60,000-capacity stadium features a design inspired by the tents historically used by nomadic peoples in Qatar and the region. It will host five matches during the FIFA Arab Cup, including the final on 18 December, and nine matches during Qatar 2022 up to the semi-finals stage.
Al Bayt Stadium has not been used by local teams as a host or official match. The stadium is planned to be reused to hold the opening match of the 2022 World Cup between Qatar vs Ecuador.
The naming of this stadium refers to the tents used first by nomadic people in the Qatar area as Bayt al Sha'ar. Following the reference to its name, the stadium design concept carried looks like a giant tent roof.
The tent was used by the people of the era to protect themselves from the sun heat first. Therefore, the inside of the stadium is equipped with coolers in all directions to ensure the temperature inside is not feeling hot.
The concept extends to the outside of the stadium. Green open spaces, parks, and lakes sprawl across the complex around the stadium. Behind the local touches, Al Bayt Stadium is one of the most magnificent stadiums in Qatar. The stadium roof can open and close which takes about twenty minutes.
