VIVA English – Russia launched a mysterious tiny military satellite on Saturday, October 15, 2022, local time. So far, the purpose of this military satellite is still secret. An Angara rocket lifts off from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northwestern Russia carrying a satellite called EMKA-3 into Earth orbit.

As quoted from the Space website, Monday, October 17, 2022, the Russian Space Agency or Roscosmos calls it Kosmos 2560.

"The spacecraft was launched into the target orbit and accepted for control of the ground facilities of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The spacecraft was given the serial number Kosmos-2560," Roscosmos wrote, via the Telegram channel.

Later, the EMKA-3 satellite will orbit about 300 kilometers above Earth, but until now the task of the satellite is still a mystery.

"Not much is known about this satellite's work. Is it for the military and is it secret?" EverydayAstronaut.com wrote in a mission description.

In addition, the launch of the three EMKA-3 satellites also followed the previous three EMKA satellites which had already been in orbit. The first was in April 2018 and spent about three years in orbit before finally returning to Earth last year.

While the other two were launched in September 2021 and April 2022 which were short-lived and in just a matter of months, they both returned to Earth.

For information, this launch is the third launch mission carried out by Russia in less than a week.
