A Family Breaks Record with Accumulated Age of 1000 Years

VIVA – In the world, many unique things happen, one is a family that has a long life. In the town of Moya, Gran Canaria Island, Spain lives a very unique family. This family of 12 people breaks a record from Guinness World Records as a long-life family. This family has a confirmed accumulated age of 1,058 years 249 days.

As quoted from UPI on Friday, October 7, 2022, the Hernandez-Perez family still lives in Moya City on Gran Canaria island, they are between 76 and 97 years old.

The family of Seven brothers and five sisters said they never expected to break the world record.

"We never thought we would break a world record," the Hernandez Perez family said in a statement to Guinness World Records.

“It all started as a joke during a family reunion in June. Then, after seeing a newspaper article titled ’12 siblings count more than 1000 years, we started gathering information and reached out to Guinness World Records,” they explained.

The eldest brother, Jose Hernandez-Perez, will turn 98 in December. The youngest, Luis Hernandez-Perez, turned 76 in April.

The record was recognized and approved by Guinness World Records in September 2022.

As quoted from the Guinnessworldrecords site, the family is always talking about the record in their group chat or sharing anecdotes on the record. The accolade had a positive impact on their lives and further cemented their bond.

However, other than the great pride and joy that the family found in breaking a world record, they also hope that it will be a recognition and homage for all those families in their city (and, more in general, on the island) that counted 8 or more siblings.

“Those families fought and sacrificed a lot to improve our present society and life,” they said.
