VIVA – When the world is in a bad situation, such as war, major disaster, or other, usually every country assists. Assistance can be provided in various forms such as sending food or volunteer troops to help a country in trouble.

But as it turns out, there are countries that stingiest on donations in the world. According to a report from the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) with the title World Giving Index 2021 A Global Pandemic Special Report, there are several countries with communities that often assist. One of them is Indonesia.

The report is the result of a survey of the world's population during the pandemic.

1. Japan

Japan is known as a country that has a very high level of discipline and work ethic. However, CAF puts Japan in the first country as the stingiest country in the world.

Japan gets the lowest score of all countries and is at number 114. Historically, Japanese society is individualistic. Moreover, charitable giving is so complicated, and non-profit organization is a new thing there.

2. Portugal

Portugal is one of the countries in Europe. According to a Charities Aid Foundation survey, only 37 percent of Portuguese people help foreigners when asked for help. Then, there is only 13 percent of the people want to donate their money to charities.

In addition, only 10 percent of Portuguese people are willing to spend time doing volunteer work in an organization. The three points then put Portugal as the stingiest country in the world in second place.

3. Belgium

Belgium ranks 112 of the 114 most generous countries. it ranks third most stingy country. This order is proven by only 25 percent of the people who want to donate their money to charities. Then, 23 percent of its citizens want to donate their money to charities. While the other 15 percent want to work together.

4. Italy

Meanwhile, 23 percent of its citizens are willing to donate money to charities and only 9 percent of Italians are willing to spend their time doing volunteer work in an organization.

5. China
