VIVA – Manado is the capital city of North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Manado city is surrounded by mountainous areas and coastal areas. The word Manado is the name of the island next to the Bunaken island, this word comes from the Minahasa regional language, namely Mana rou or Mana dou which in Indonesian means "far away".
Manado city has many beautiful tourist destinations. In addition, Manado city is known for a variety of delicious, and unique culinary that tourists must try.
1. Tinutuan
This food is a typical Manado porridge. This food is often called a very healthy food because of its composition which contains many vegetables and good substances that are useful for the body. Usually, tinutuan is served with fish, various fried foods, chili sauce, and other complements.
2. Tinoransak
This food is a type of warm and spicy meat dish that uses a mixture of spices that has a spicy and thick taste. Tinoransak is originally made using pork.
However, considering the large number of Muslim communities living in Manado, sometimes Tinoransak is also made using beef. Obviously, the taste of this dish is delicious.
3. Halua Kenari
Halua kenari is made using the main ingredients of walnuts that thrive in North Sulawesi. These nuts are wrapped in brown sugar that has been melted and then coated into the nuts. Enjoying halua kenari is fitting accompanied by a cup of coffee or bitter tea.
4. Cakalang Asap (fufu)
Cakalang is a typical Manado fish that is famous for its delicious taste and is believed to have a myriad of health benefits. Skipjack fufu is made from Cakalang Asap or white tuna (fufu). This fresh Cakalang fish is processed by clamping it with a bamboo frame, seasoning it, then smoking it.
5. Woku Chicken
The seasoning from Woku chicken consists of several ingredients and spices, including garlic, onion, lime leaves, ginger, lemongrass, turmeric to pandan. Woku Belanga chicken has two versions, namely a thick soup and a liquid soup-like soup.
6. Sambal Roa
Sambal Roa is a popular Manado specialty. Sambal Roa is made from roa fish that has been smoked and dried in the sun to dry, then mashed and mixed with Manado's signature chili sauce.
7. Klapertart (coconut cake)
Klapertart comes from the words 'Klapper' and 'tart' which means 'coconut' and 'tart' which means cake in Dutch pronunciation. This Manadonese food is often served during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
This coconut cake is made from a mixture of milk, butter, eggs, coconut, and wheat flour. The texture of the klapertart is very thick and has a creamy taste that makes it very delicious to eat.
8. Panada
The last typical Manado food is Panada. This food is a type of fried bread that has a fish filling. Panada is deliciously eaten both in the morning as breakfast and in the afternoon as a tea companion.
