Jakarta Government Reviews Free Public Transport Proposal

VIVA – The Jakarta Provincial Government will review the tariff policy for the integration of public transportation in accordance with the existing components, one of which is subsidies in the transportation sector. Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that his party would first review the proposal made by the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

"Obviously, related to the Council's proposal, of course we will study this further in its determination later because there are several factors that we will consider as to how the subsidy component in the transportation sector is one of the determining factors as well," said Syafrin in his statement on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

At the Commission B meeting of the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Assembly, Syafrin said, Commission B had approved and sent a recommendation for the integration rate of public transportation in the MRT, LRT and Transjakarta of Rp10,000.

He hopes that Commission C will immediately decide to send the same recommendation.

"We hope that after yesterday's meeting, Commission C will issue recommendations, as well as the results of the last working meeting with Commission B, Commission B has issued recommendations so that later after that, the Governor will receive a letter from the chairman of the board regarding the approval of the proposed JakLingko integrated tariff package," said Syafrin.

For right now, his party will wait for the decision of the meeting and have prepared all the components to support the policy.

"Currently, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is waiting for a response from the leadership of the Council regarding the approval of the Jak Lingko integration tariff package. We will do all the preparations," he said.

For the information, Commission C of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) held a meeting at the City Hall Building regarding the tariff for integration of public transportation in Jakarta so that people can optimize public transportation to carry out daily activities.

A member of the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Assembly from the National Mandate Party (PAN) fraction, Lukmanul Hakim, proposed that the tariff for integration of public transportation in Jakarta be free for one year.

Furthermore, he stated that the aim of freeing the integration fee was to change the behavior pattern of the people of Jakarta who initially chose to use private transportation in order to switch to public transportation.

Member of the NasDem party faction, Wibi Andrino, supports Lukmanul's proposal. Wibi hopes that Lukmanul's proposal can be followed up by the chairman of the meeting. According to him, the Jakarta Provincial Government needs a breakthrough step to make public transportation more attractive.
