VIVA – The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia has organized the “Tempeh Goes to New Yorkevent. The event was held in the Pancasila Room of the Indonesian Consulate General, New York on May 20, 2021. It's because tempeh as a plant-based food has an impressive taste, high protein and healthy food for consumption by people.

The Tempeh Goes to New York event is part of a collaboration with the Women's Entrepreneurship Day Organization (WEDO).

The event also partners and supports events by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Casper Labs (Crypto), Pocket Network Cryptocurrency (POKT), ABRA (Conquer Crypto) and Ava Labs (Blockchain Industry).

Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in New York, DR. Arifi Saiman, MA conveyed his welcome to the guests and expressed his gratitude for the collaborative activities with WEDO which were attended by invited guests, such as women leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

Consulate General Arifi also said his belief that the collaboration would increase knowledge, experience, expertise, and also gives promotion about gender equality and women's empowerment.

He also let the guests enjoy art performances and traditional Indonesian culinary specialties, especially those based on the tempeh that had been provided, namely tempeh bacem, dried tempeh and tempeh curry. It makes tempeh gain popularity in New York.
Meylia Kurnianto from BOStempeh briefly explained the benefits of tempeh as a healthy, sustainable and affordable food, low in calories and low in sodium.

Ms. Wendy Diamond, representing WEDO, expressed her gratitude to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in New York for the partnership and hosting the networking event.

Participants who attended also gained knowledge about culture, Indonesian specialties and the potential for Indonesian-based businesses.

The invitation from the Indonesian side consisted of the banking sector, IIPC New York and the business diaspora. There were also invitations from the US: CEOs, Philanthropists, Family Offices, Business Leaders, Women Entrepreneurs, Changemakers, Royal Families, C Suite Executives, Impact Investors, Celebrities/Influencers, UN Dignitaries and Government Officials.

In addition, some YouTubers also present too, namely MahMud in New York, Keeping it Indo and the NYC Podcast Overseas which were purposed to promote tempeh to their loyal subscribers.

The event was also livened up by entertainment, such as the Glipang dance from the Indonesian Cultural Club (ICC) Delaware, the displays of traditional clothing from various regions in Indonesia and by the DWP of the Indonesian Consulate General in New York led by Mrs. Endang Wahyu Kinasih.
