Sandiaga Uno Talked About Tourism Progress at UN General Assembly

VIVA – The minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno or known as Sandiaga Uno became a speaker at the United Nations general assembly. During the meeting, he said that Indonesia is the world's reference in handling the COVID-19 pandemic currently.
He also talks about progress of the tourism sector after two years of the pandemic in Indonesia.
Sandiaga Uno said this after he gave a speech at the 'High-Level Thematic Debate on Tourism' held by the United Nations General Assembly Hall, New York, United States, Wednesday, May 4 2022.
"Indonesia is very much appreciated for handling the COVID-19 pandemic and the progress of our tourism based quality, community-based, and sustainable tourism is the support for our economic revival, supporting the creation of business opportunities, and also being able to open up the widest possible employment opportunities," said Sandiaga Uno.
He said when talking about sustainable tourism, there must be clear and concrete actions, such as Indonesia's offer to convert plastic waste into solutions based on natural products or nature-based solutions.
"Well, that's what we present, and we immediately show that this purun (peat plant)-based straw will be our real solution to overcome environmental issues," added Sandiaga.
He revealed about the realization of his statement at the UN General Assembly is that in line with the G20 and Indonesia's role as the host of the world tourism day, his party will continue to encourage economic revival, create business opportunities, and open employment opportunities.
“Together with President Joko Widodo, of course we will develop a new tourism economic order that is open and fair. The permit that we underlined and Indonesia took a strategic position, a position as a country that became a reference for all regions in the world in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and the progress of tourism," said Sandiaga Uno.
Sandiaga Uno also ensured that the Indonesian economy would rise through the tourism sector, as stated in his statement on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
"We will continue to encourage investment and sustainable development that brings prosperity to the community," said the minister of tourism and creative economy, Sandiaga Uno.
