Cooking Oil Export Ban to be Evaluated Continuously

VIVA – The government has officially established a temporary prohibition export of cooking oil or Refined, Bleached, Deodorized Palm Olein (RBD Palm Olein) until the availability of bulk cooking oil at a price of Rp14,000/liter, evenly distributed throughout Indonesia.
Especially in traditional markets and for the needs of Small and Medium Enterprises. The implementation and implementation of these policies will be supervised by Customs and Excise.
"According to the President's directives, the prohibited is temporarily enforced until the price of bulk cooking oil reaches Rp14,000/liter in traditional markets and the mechanism for the ban is formulated in a simple way," said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
The prohibition of export applies for RBD Palm Olein products with three Harmonized System (HS) codes, namely 1511.90.36, 1511.90.37, and 1511.90.39. Meanwhile, CPO and RPO can still be exported as necessary, so companies can still buy fresh fruit bunch from farmers.
The prohibition of export regulated by the Regulation of Minister of Trade is in accordance with a provision of Article XI GATT stating that World Trade Organization (WTO) member countries can impose temporary export bans or restrictions to prevent the lack of or increase the supply of food or other essential products.
By Airlangga, Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance and Food Task Force of the Indonesian National Police will monitor the implementation of this policy strictly and continuously, including during Eid al-Fitr holiday.
“Evaluation of this export ban policy will be carried out continuously. We will take firm actions in response to every violation in accordance with laws and regulations. And if deemed necessary, the policy will be adjusted to the prevailing situation,” he said.
The government has made several efforts for the community to get bulk cooking oil, such as The government requested payment of price subsidies through the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency without compromising good governance.
The government has also assigned the state-owned logistics firm Bulog to distribute bulk cooking oil to the public, especially to traditional markets.
